We have had a large presence in Dundee now for over 120 years... |
Parkside has had a large presence as a Vet in Dundee for over 120 years. We are one of the oldest private Vets in Scotland. Working from an ex nunnery in Long Wynd, Dundee, the veterinary practice had to make way for the first new Overgate shopping centre in Dundee and move to Constitution Road in 1960. Parkside Vets in Dundee were formerly Mr Pedie, then Mr Gibson, followed by Mr Thomson, Mr Davidson and now the present partners you can see here on the web site.
Parkside Vet Group has grown from 3 Vets in 1980 to 14 Vets now, with ten working exclusively with Pet Medicine and Surgery - a long way since the one-man "horse vet's" work-load 100 years ago, which would have been 90% working shire horses, working in 2 and 3-storey city stables in Dundee, near to the docks!
One of our partners has an orthopaedic specialisation (SA) and we accept referrals in this field from other practices. He is also one of a handful of Vets in Scotland qualified to carry out TPLO ops using the Slocum method, for anterior cruciate ruptures - (a serious knee ligament injury, often seen in footballers). Other partners have special interests in soft tissue surgery, radiology, endoscopy, equine medicine, dental work and in this way we can offer you a comprehensive service within our group. An additional speciality is our new state-of-the-art ultrasound scanner which allows us to look at blood flow in the heart, and see minute detail in the abdomen, essential for problems in these areas.
We work from three surgeries - one in Broughty Ferry, one in Barnhill, close to Monifieth, as well as the newest Dundee site, where we have a modern purpose-built surgery at 5 Kings Cross road. Kings Cross Road surgery open-days see over 300 people coming to see behind the scenes, with stalls from drug companies, Guide Dogs, Mountains Animal sanctuary and even horse-shoe making in the new equine facility.
Parkside Equine has an excellent reputation for all Equine work, undertaking advanced equine dental work, AI, Scanning, Radiology etc and we travel to farm calls through Angus, Fife and East Perthshire. Our Equne Treatment centre allows us to carry out more specialised work with your hourses as outpatients.
We also carry out inspections for Local Authorities and Universities.
We are accredited in the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme. We are a Teir 2 practice at Dundee and Barnhill for pets and we are Teir 2 for Equine and Farm work also. This involves independant inspection of all our premises and ensures the highest standards for you and your animals.
