Dental Care

Dental Care The picture shows a young, healthy mouth.

Ultrasound dental scalers make the best job of scaling your pets' teeth, with a polish afterwards for a happy sweet smile. Each of the three surgeries has an ultrasonic scaler, so your pet receives the best attention and treatment at every surgery. A general anaesthetic (GA) is required to scale both dogs and cats' teeth. Rabbits do not need scaling, but overgrowth means trimming of the teeth, also under GA, though this is best prevented.See HERE

The picture shows how the teeth start, when the permanent teeth are fully grown. If you start to brush your dog or cat's teeth (daily) when young, you prevent, to a large degree, tartar being laid down and so avoid major mouth disease. Some crunchy food and chew sticks also reduce tartar lay-down. Avoid bones as they frquently cause problems at the other end! Some rubber toys are good for exercising the gums. Food is put inside and the dog or cat chews the rubber fingers, trying to get to the food.

We sell suitable toys, brushes and tooth pastes at every surgery. Have a look HERE. Do not use human tooth paste - this needs to be spat out - even the best trained pet will not do this!!
