Anaesthesia

Anaesthetic Machine Our machines allow very acurate anaesthesia levels to be maintained constantly, with a rapid, gentle recovery...

After the initial induction of an anaesthetic, the safest method of maintaining anaesthesia is via a gas, which is administered by a machine, in oxygen, via a tube inside the wind-pipe. (an endotracheal tube, or e-t tube).

We use this method at all three surgeries and we have 8 machines for this purpose. This allows very acurate anaesthesia levels to be maintained constantly, with a rapid, gentle recovery. It is the best and safest method for your pet!

To be even safer, we use Isoflurane, rather than Halothane, for all gaseous anaesthetics at all three surgeries, along with propofol for the induction. This combination is recognised as a "Gold Standard" for all pets. You are worth the extra investment! - and your pet will feel the difference by feeling better and looking brighter afterwards.

Some procedures may only need sedation and for this we use a reversible agent, administered by injection. This is not necessarily the best method for higher risk pets, as a general anaesthetic, using the above drugs, is usually safer. Please be advised by us.
