Another speciality from Parkside!

Advanced Ultrasound and Cardiology

New Advanced Scanner

Two pups looking identical. One has a heart murmur. Is it a problem? Will it affect the dog later in life? We can now offer advanced ultrasound cardiac diagnosis which will allow us to look at the heart muscle as it beats, take measurements and examine the blood flow through the heart. This helps us greatly in reassuring you - or otherwise! Remember, ultrasound is completely safe and only needs sedation, if that. If your pet develops a heart problem later in life, we are in an ideal positon to investigate and diagnose this fully and accurately, with the best recoginised treatment.

Our new state of the art ultrasound scanner has the ability to view very small structures in great detail, take measurements and record videos and photos. A great help also when examining a dog's abdomen which feels abnormal, or the cat with affected kidneys, or bladder stones, gall stones and growths in general.

This is a major investment and will allow us to perform referral work for other Vets in the N-E of Scotland. The scanner will record high definition movies and pictures and the doppler facility allows us to look at blood flow in great detail.

This is only of use if you have a Vet who can interpret these images and most vets at Parkside have undertaken specific trainig courses in the subject. Dr David Spratt, (above) one of our veterinary surgeons has had advanced training in ultrasound techniques and holds a Certificate in Cardiology, which allows him to give every heart case his expertise. David can provide acurate interpretation of scans in dogs, cats and horses, adding to our exisisting scanning skills.

Our mobile units allow tendon and pregnancy scanning of horses - even in your stable although the advanced images of the large scanner makes a visit to the surgery worthwhile (if the horse is able).
