Lots of roughage reduces dentals |
We do not want to have to trim or smoothe your rabbits long, sharp or overgrown teeth!! Because if that is necessary, we frequently find complications of infection and abscess formation in the future and this can reduce your rabbit's lifespan.
Nutriton is so improtant to avoid teeth problems so make sute you have read all about keeping and feeding rabbits HERE
Sometimes we need to Xray your rabbit to check for tooth root problems. Here are some pictures of a pet rabbit's head.

The one above, (a negative of the original Xray) shows the incisor teeth (1) then the gap (3) before you come to the molars (2) or chewing teeth. These are the ones which can cause pain in the mouth if they overgow and your rabbit will go off food and will drool saliva. If your rabbit has a wet chin, it has a mouth problem and needs seen promptly. In this case the roots of the molars are very long and are prone to becoming infected.
Please follow our feeding guide to avoid these problems.
