Over 100 clients and visitors attending our recent open evening at Parkside Equine at Kings Cross Road surgery. The theme was "Keeping your horse fit" with talks from equine physio Catriona Goulding and the Scherring-Plough head Vet, who discussed the use of Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulphate feed suppliments - very common now in people and pets, aiding recovery from jount injury but also as an aid to healthy joints by supplimenting the growing horse.
Their product, Cosequin, is preferred by most Vets because the small molecule size allows better absorption to give higher blood levels than most and it is not sourced form fish or shellfish, like many. It is very pure with with guaranteed levels, being manufactured to human pharmaceutical standards. It is also one of a few products which has been used in trial work to show its proven efficacy and is the No.1 joint suppliment in the world.
Catriona's talk was held in our Equine Treatment area and she discussed what happens to your horse when at work and how you can help afterwards with basic massage techniques.
She demonstrated using her own horse, helped by a bit of a "paint job" which showed all the muscle masses, allowing her to explain
what the muscles did and how you (and she) can help after strenuous exercise and injury.
Catriona has a qualification in Equine Sports Massage after her degree in Equine Science and runs a referral service in Equine Massage. Read more about her at www.catrionagoulding.co.uk
Equine Vets were on hand for questions and a display afterwards showed the array of specialist equipment we use for advanced dental work as well as Scherring-Plough's top-quality wormers (with the lowest prices!) and more information about Cosaquin for horses.
