John Keen, European Specialist in equine medicine, based at the Dick Vet in Edinburgh, was the Parkside Equine guest speaker at Discovery Point in April, where a full-house of 150 clients and guests heard the latest knowledge and research about Cushings Disease and Metabolic Syndrome in horses. You may have seen Dr Keen on ITV's vet programme, based on referral cases at the Dick Vet school near Edinburgh, where he is a senior lecturer in equine medicine.
Introduced by Richard, (seated are the other 3 members of the equine team (Alistair, Sam and Iona)), John (seated right) gave an in depth talk which lead to much discussions afterwards and during refreshments. Richard also talked about the next vaccine amnesty, where you can get free second vaccination doses (see home page).
Here is the Equine team with Dr John Keen, centre. From left - Iona, Richard, Dr Keen, Alistair, Sam. Read more about our Equine Vets HERE.

Mountains animal sanctuary had a stand with lots for sale and a popular raffle with great prizes from a gallon a whisky to a Jules top with matching body-warmer (donated by Parkside).

Intervet, a great supporter of events like this and represented by Campbell Morrison, showed off their equine products. Thanks from Parkside for Intervet's sponsorship.
Bayer had handouts and information sheets about identity chipping and the need to chip all foals. We use their superior Tracer chip, made from a polymer stronger than the ususal glass chips and very reliable (and still under £20 at Parkside). Thanks to representative Ian Stewart for sponsorship and client information sheets.
Janssen Animal Health also helped out at the evening and their new products were on show with information leaflets and an offer from Parkside on the night. They were showing us Fidavet Cavalesse, an oral form and a topical cream, both aiming to maintain a healthy skin especially in allergic horses and is reputedly good for reducing the signs of sweet itch. We thank them for their sponsorship.
Bayer provided sponsorship for the evening too and provided a supply of information sheets regarding compulsory chipping of equines. We use their superior Tracer chip, made from a unique polymer, rather than glass, and is stronger and very reliable - and still under £20 at Parkside!
A good night full of up to the minute information on topics which we find are becoming much more common at our GP level and not just at Universities.
